Keto White Hot Chocolate

This Keto White Hot Chocolate offers a comforting way to indulge in a sweet and dairy-free wintertime treat without the sugar overload.

Hot chocolate is having a moment, and why not? If you’re gonna be cooped up inside it might as well be with a warm cup of deliciousness.    

I don’t know about you, but I need to step away from the sugar after this last holiday season. I enjoyed every bite of my sugar indulgences and regret nothing, but my waistline tells me it’s time to back away from the sugary treats. At least temporarily.

If you and your waistline are on the same page, I’ve got a recipe for white hot chocolate that you can feel good about indulging in. This dairy-free Keto White Hot Chocolate can be made with just 2 ingredients! And contains around 4 grams* of sugar per serving (*this is my best estimate, I am not a nutritionist, nor did I take the time to count how many chocolate chips are in ¾ of a cup; the recipe makes 2 (6) ounce cups of hot chocolate). And it's dairy-free! 

Dairy-Free White Hot Chocolate

Low-Sugar, Dairy-free Keto-friendly White Hot Chocolate

How is this possible!? Thankfully ChocZero exists. It’s a product line that offers sweet treats with zero sugar added. There is only 1 gram of sugar per 60 white chocolate chips. Once you get yourself some ChocZero white chocolate chips you’re halfway to a *nearly* sugar-free cup of tastiness. 

I opted to make this white hot chocolate dairy-free as well by using coconut milk. It makes a rich, creamy hot chocolate that feels decadent - despite the fact that there's no dairy.

The second ingredient you’ll need is a can of coconut milk. This is where a teeny tiny bit of sugar comes in. Trader Joe’s Organic Coconut Milk has only 1 gram of sugar per ¼ cup. Since I’m not a sugar teetotaler, this recipe makes me feel good about indulging in a cup of (two) of Keto Coconut White Hot Chocolate. 

How do you make Keto White Hot Chocolate?

This fantastic dairy-free white hot chocolate can be made with just a few simple ingredients. You will have to track down ChocZero white chocolate chips, which you can find on Amazon. They are worth the splurge to create a comforting treat that's low-sugar and low-carb..

INGREDIENTS  

  • 1 13.5 ounce can Trader Joe's Organic Coconut Milk
  • ¾ cup ChocZero white chocolate chips*
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • whipped cream optional

INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Add 1 can of coconut milk to a medium-size saucepan and heat over medium-low heat. Add in ¾ cup white chocolate chips and stir until melted and hot, but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat, mix in vanilla extract (if using). Divide into 2 mugs and garnish with whipped cream, if desired.

A NOTE ON FLAVOR

You might want to start with ½ cup white chocolate chips, then increase the amount. At ½ cup the coconut flavor still dominates, but as you increase the amount of ChocZero white chocolate chips the flavor starts leaning more toward white chocolate.

Keto Coconut White Hot Chocolate

Tasty Extras

While solid with only two ingredients, this Keto White Hot Chocolate can be easily elevated. I like to add just a little bit of vanilla extract (¼ teaspoon) and top it with whipped cream. 

  • Flavored extract (think vanilla, coconut, almond, peppermint)
  • Cinnamon or allspice
  • Whipped cream (dairy or non-dairy)
  • Sugar-free marshmallows

You could also sneak in some collagen or matcha powder to make it a healthy, indulgent treat.
